(Traditional Method, Brasso) Brass : Public Area Cleaning

WORK TO BE DONE:  cleaning of brass surface.

STATE OF THE SURFACE: very dirty and badly tarnished.

EQUIPMENTS TO BE USED: Plastic basin, tooth brush, rags and dusters.

AGENTS REQUIRED: Hot water, washing soda, tamarind, brasso.

PROCEDURE: Tarnish on a brass surface is in the form of green color corrosion which is caused due to exposure of the metallic surface to the atmospheric conditions.

  1. Dust the brass surface using a dry duster
  2. Make a solution of washing soda in hot water and dip the article for 2-3 min. This helps in loosening of dirt from the surface of the article.
  3. Dry the surface and apply tamarind and salt paste. Rub the article with the same paste till the tarnish is removed or the brass develops a reddish tinge.
  4. Clean the article in washing soda solution ( neutralising)
  5. Rinse with fresh water and let it dry.
  6. Shake the Brasso bottle well and apply little quantity of Brasso on the article surface with the help of a rag.
  7. Buff it well with a duster till the article gets a shiny appearance

WINDING UP

  1. Put all the equipments and agents back in the work basket.
  2. Clean and place them in their respective place.
  3. Put the rags and dusters in the laundry for washing.

PRECAUTIONS

  1. Buffing to be done properly
  2. Deep edges and curved surfaces should be cleaned properly with a tooth brush.
