Foodborne pathogens

Foodborne pathogens or substances such as parasites or bacteria in food that cause illness or food poisoning, and in severe cases, death.

or

A pathogen–especially bacteria, for which the ‘vector’ is itself a food.

 

Foodborne disease

(also foodborne illness and colloquially referred to as food poisoning)[1] is any illness resulting from the food spoilage of contaminated food, pathogenic bacteria, viruses, or parasites that contaminate food, as well as toxins such as poisonous mushrooms etc.

  • Salmonellosis (nontyphoidal)
  • Haemolytic uraemic syndrome
  • Shigellosis
  • Campylobacteriosis
  • Staphylococcal food poisoning
  • Clostridial food poisoning, pigbel syndrome
