Classification (based on the origin and degree of saturation)

by

On The Basic of Origin

 Lipids

  • Animal Fat         – Butter, Lard, Tallow, Suet
  • Marine Oils        – Cod Liver Oil, Shark Liver Oil, Halibut Oil
  • Vegetables Oils  – Coconut Oil, Soyabean Oil, Mustard Oil

ON THE BASIS OF DEGREE OF SATURATION

Lipids

  • Simple          –  Fatty Acid + Glycerol
  • Compound  –  Fatty Acid + Glycerol + Components Likes P,N
  • Derived        –  Large Compounds

  • 1 fatty acid+ hydroxyl group(glycerol) = monoglyceride
  • 2 fatty acid+ glycerol = diglyceride
  • 3 fatty acid+ glycerol = triglyceride
